A Peanut Detector Dog is a valuable tool for
a person with an allergy to peanuts. Since a
dog’s sense of smell far surpasses that
of humans, detection of odors is a perfect job
for these dogs. Our Peanut Dogs, undergo extensive
training, are easily able to detect minute quantities
of peanuts in any form; raw, cooked, oil, butter,
dust, etc.
The
Peanut Dog, although a pioneer, has already
proven to be an incomparable and diligent assistant,
devoted to preventing contact with peanut residue
and thereby, a severe allergic reaction.
Trainee
candidates are carefully selected, tested and
screened for temperament and characteristics
that will allow them to be both a working dog
and a family companion.
The
breeds of dogs most commonly used for peanut detection
are Poodles, Labrador Retrievers, Golden Retrievers
and German Shepherds, as well as dogs of mixed
breeds. Poodles can often be owned by people whom
otherwise cannot have a dog, as they do not shed
and are relatively dander free.
